Adam Beschizza – The Rising Star of North American Thoroughbred Racing

Adam Beschizza’s rise in racing has been remarkable. Last month alone he won two high-profile North American stakes races on Mom’s On Strike (The Bewitch) and Triple Chelsea (Cambridgeshire), then placed second in Risen Star on William Haggas-trained Green Destiny (Risen Star).

Early Life and Education

Beschizza, born and raised in England where his family has long been involved with horse racing, was drawn to horses at an early age. After graduating from the British Racing School in 2009, Beschizza started riding professionally in 2010, earning 567 North American wins with mount earnings approaching $28 Million.

Beschizza made an indelible mark on trainer Joe Sharp during his brief stay at Fair Grounds, riding Genuine Jones to two wins and placing second in the Risen Star with 41-to-1 long shot Snapper Sinclair. Even with limited exposure in America, Beschizza has already out-earned Britain’s leading jockey Silvestre De Souza this winter while fast becoming one of America’s fastest rising riders.

Professional Career

After competing in England for seven full seasons, Beschizza moved to New Orleans last November and has been working towards his first jockey title ever since.

On Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs he will ride Enforcable four months late due to bad winter weather and strict Covid-19 travel protocols which has kept other top jockeys away.

Sisterson is confident Beschizza will give the colt the best chance at victory. “He is an exceptional rider,” she stated, “and is in superb form.”

Achievement and Honors

Beschizza is no stranger to big prizes as a jockey; his mounts have amassed over $28 million in North American earnings alone. Last spring he made his Keeneland debut and won the Bewitch Stakes aboard Mom’s on Strike trained by Joe Sharp – making for an impressive win during Keeneland’s spring meet!

Beschizza won his second graded race when riding Green Destiny to victory in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket, completing a back-end double that included winning in autumn via Third Time Lucky in Cambridgeshire.

Steve Asmussen of Hall of Fame Trainer Steve Asmussen has selected Beschizza as the rider for Beautiful Star in Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies on Sept. 9 from post position four. Beautiful Star is the daughter of two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow and will break from post position four of this race.

Personal Life

After an exciting day at Ellis Park where Beschizza had live mounts in all but one stakes race, he found comfort in two comfortable black recliners in the backstretch kitchen resembling more closely that of a youth hostel. Though he did not win Risen Star race itself, he had made great profits through other rides he had taken advantage of that day.

Since leaving Newcastle and moving to New Orleans last November, Beschizza has seen dollar signs appear – nearly equaling his UK earnings over four years! Though he may now have equaled them both here Stateside, that doesn’t mean Beschizza has reached his financial goals; in fact he still strives for more. Eventually he’ll find his goal but perhaps not this year!

Net Worth

Adam Beschizza left Newcastle and headed south, only to become one of North America’s richest riders. Already, he’s made more money than reigning British Champion Jockey Silvestre De Sousa and could become one of the richest riders overall.

Beschizza has already earned five Grade 3 wins this year, including the Bewitch (G3) with Mom’s On Strike at Keeneland and Ben Ali (G3) on Silver Dust at Keeneland. Additionally, he will ride Liz Morris’ Enforceable at Churchill Downs for its 2022 Kentucky Derby.
