Early Life and Education
Adam Pottinger was raised by public servants – his father being an assistant attorney general and mother working at the United States Department of Labor. Following graduation, Adam served in three combative deployments with Marine Corps reservists before entering college.
He joined the White House staff in 2019, serving as deputy national security advisor. According to his Hoover Institute profile, he coordinated all aspects of national security policy development.
Pottinger brings an extensive communications background to Bell Pottinger. Before joining Bell Pottinger, he served as communications adviser at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), one of Britain’s premier business lobby groups. There he advised both director-general and economic policy teams on communications strategies as well as issues management and crisis support issues affecting them; additionally he led their groundbreaking Climate Change Taskforce.
Professional Career
After leaving Bell Pottinger, Adam joined Ogilvy PR London as a Partner, overseeing a team of employee engagement, sustainability, corporate communications and issues and crisis specialists. Adam was responsible for leading and managing a PS3m business unit – setting its strategic vision, leading day-to-day management, winning new business and producing results.
He serves as an esteemed visiting fellow and chair of its China program at the Hoover Institution. His expertise includes Asian and international security policy, media issues and relations, U.S.-China policy.

Achievement and Honors
Pottinger distinguished himself at Triton by earning both NJCAA Division I All-American and All-Region honors twice each. Additionally, he served as team captain and was named to both junior and senior season All-State teams.

Personal Life
Pottinger is married to Yen Pottinger, an expert virologist. While at the Centers for Disease Control she conducted studies on HIV incidence. According to Columbia University Miller Center this work led to the creation of a lab test measuring its prevalence.
Pottinger and his wife have one child together: William. Together they reside in Utah. Pottinger holds distinguished visiting fellow positions at both Hoover Institution and Marathon Initiative (a national security policy group).
