CSM Thomas, a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom

After successfully completing initial military training and advanced individual training, CSM Thomas joined the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion as a Recruitment Specialist. His responsibilities included instructing new enlistees in drill and ceremony, military timekeeping, rank structure, land navigation and other topics that would prepare them for basic training.

Early Life and Education

The College of Southern Maryland is a public regional community college offering an extensive array of programs and services. Their mission is to provide accessible and inclusive education that improves lives while strengthening communities.

Csm Thomas first served his nation during the Mexican-American War and chose to remain loyal to the Union Army throughout its long Civil War conflict despite having been born in Virginia (which would later join Confederacy). He earned one of the early major Union victories at Mill Springs in Kentucky before leading its defense at Chickamauga.

He dedicated numerous weekends mentoring pre-basic Soldiers by teaching them drill and ceremony, military timekeeping, phonetic alphabet phonetics alphabetization rank structure land navigation. Additionally, he held multiple leadership positions within recruiting as well as working as an NCO for Mental Health as well as 13B Cannon Crewmember.

Professional Career

CSM Thomas began his military career as an enlisted soldier. After successfully completing basic and advanced individual training for Psychiatric Technician 91F certification, he transitioned into becoming an instructor, drill sergeant and team leader before eventually being deployed numerous times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

He next became part of the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion as an Army Reserve recruiter, mentoring new enlistees during battle assembly weekends to teach them drill and ceremony, military timekeeping, rank structure and rank privileges.

He completed all Noncommissioned Officer Education System courses, serving in multiple assignments as platoon sergeant major, operations sergeant major and division command sergeant major before receiving both the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal awards for his service. Now serving USASOC G2 in Joint Base San Antonio Texas.

Achievement and Honors

CSM Thomas entered the Army in January 1998 as an Infantryman (11B). Since then he has held numerous leadership roles within the organization such as Squad Leader, Section Sergeant Major, Deputy Commandant of the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, Brigade Command Sergeant Major and DA Principal. Deployed three times to Iraq; attended and graduated Warrior Leaders Course Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course as well as Sergeants Major Academy courses.

He has received many honors, such as the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medals (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medals (8 OLC) Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal with three campaign stars for Afghanistan Campaign Medal, two campaign stars for Iraq Campaign Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal with numeral 5. Additionally he was recognized with Knowlton Award.

Personal Life

Csm Thomas is a retired United States Army Master Sergeant with 30 years of service. During that time he deployed in support of Operations INDO-PACOM, NORTHCOM, SOUTHCOM and CENTCOM as well as serving as Logistic Advisor for Afghanistan National Army.

CSM Thomas hails from Virginia. He is married with one daughter. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, playing with his pet dog and participating in obstacle course races.

On 27 July 1992 he enlisted in the Army at Cleveland Recruiting Battalion, Boardman Ohio as a 68X Mental Health NCO and assigned to 85th Medical Detachment as part of their 68X Mental Health NCOs, later changing to 13B Cannon Crew Member status and successfully completing all levels of NCO Education System including United States Sergeants Major Academy and First Sergeant Course.

Drafted 27th overall by them in 2021 Round 1, Cam was signed as part of their roster in 2022 Round 1.

He attended Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia where he won multiple basketball trophies before being honored as the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Offensive Player of the Year in July 2019. Later attending Louisiana State University.
