Dan Kavanagh – A Gentleman of Many Gifts

Dan enjoyed spending his free time with his family. His grandchildren were his greatest source of delight and pride, not to mention Notre Dame football games, Barn Theater productions and Budweiser on Ice events were some of his favorites!

He was a man of many talents who enjoyed sharing them with others. Always ready to offer assistance when necessary, his presence would bring brightness and love into every room he entered.

Early Life and Education

Daniel was a man of many talents who was always searching for ways to assist others. He made many friends throughout Massachusetts and was immensely proud of his Brazilian heritage. Daniel brought joy and laughter into everyone’s lives; we shall greatly miss him.

He was a Navy veteran who had served at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois and became part of the Naval Reserve, eventually earning himself the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Senator Fitzgerald represents State District 26 which covers Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and DUMBO neighborhoods as well as parts of Lower Manhattan such as Tribeca Chinatown Little Italy SoHo. Additionally he is married to Bonnie Fitzgerald who previously worked as a flight attendant.

Professional Career

Daniel Kavanagh is an SOSV Financial Accountant working out of their Cork office and brings with him extensive experience across a range of fields within finance such as treasury management.

He specializes in bronze chasing for artists and private clients on commission, having begun as an apprentice at Powderhall Fine Art Foundry in Ullapool, Scotland.

Prior to his current post, Dr. Wraight worked as a senior research scientist at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard where his scientific research focused on T cell immune response mechanisms against infectious diseases and tumors.

Dan has done an outstanding job since transitioning to Talent Development. He has proven an exceptional capacity for mentoring. Consistent, hardworking and humorous; we couldn’t be prouder of the leader he’s become! Dan is thoroughly immersed in ALKU’s culture of Have Fun Working Hard and makes an incredible addition to our organization.

Achievement and Honors

Kavanagh was named as second only to Yeats as Ireland’s favorite poet by Irish Times readers in 2000 poll. Additionally, many musicians and artists such as Van Morrison, Billy Bragg and Sinead O’Connor have performed his poems.

Kavanagh has led the Eagles to unprecedented fundraising and attendance records during his nine years at FGCU, as well as ASUN regular season and tournament championships. Furthermore, he established the Jack Kavanagh Memorial Youth Baseball Research Award to commemorate his father who was an active SABR member.

Framingham residents Ilma Paixao and her husband Frank lost their 33-year-old son Daniel in a three-vehicle collision on Friday while traveling to Wyoming in order to start up a business venture with a friend.

Personal Life

Dan was an empathic person who looked out for those on the fringe of his social circles – be they migrants, team players or the recently bereaved. His smile was infectious and his hugs comforting; his presence lit up any room.

He was a keen supporter of the arts, regularly attending performances at The Barn Theater. Additionally, he enjoyed many sports competitions like running, swimming, canoeing, Notre Dame football games and even participating in marathons in Dublin.

Dan was not only devoted to his professional pursuits; he was an active participant in his community as well. He served on the Galesburg Rotary Club board and co-founded Notre Dame Club of Kalamazoo founding board as well. With Bonnie by his side, they enjoyed many gatherings of family and friends and especially relished sharing dinner table conversations together.
