Early Life and Education

Coy’s debut children’s book, Two Old Potatoes and Me, follows a girl as she works alongside her father to turn two wrinkled potatoes into a garden full of purple flowers and a bowl of mashed potatoes. A Kirkus Reviews contributor applauded this alliterative text as it contained language that was both colloquial and casual; therefore just right for young readers.

Coy is also the author of the 4 for 4 middle-grade series, which centers around all four major sports. His works centering around basketball include Strong to the Hoop and Around the World – picture books with comic book style artwork that showcase the game – while his young adult novel Crackback depicts a football fan coming out of their comfort zone and taking risks to become a better football player. Coy resides in Minneapolis and frequently visits schools nationwide.

As well as his book writing career, he enjoyed traveling and hunting and fishing. He loved metal detecting as an antique and coin collector and fancied music. Additionally, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and teaching them gardening techniques.
