A Look at Daniel Underwood and Carrie Underwood
Dan is an award-winning marketer with extensive experience working across brands, agencies and rights owners. Now leading YRDS Sports Entertainment Agency as its Chief Commercial Officer.
Rebecca had moved into Daniel’s house just two months prior to his death on July 4th weekend and claimed she had been helping with bills and cleaning duties.
Early Life and Education
Growing up, Underwood looked up to his older brother Nathan as an inspiration and role model. Both brothers shared a love for baseball at BNL; Nathan took an active part in mentoring Underwood’s development as well.
Underwood couldn’t stop thinking about Camille Downey’s words before leaving home for his 90-day sentence in 2013. She told him Thomas was waiting on the other end of his phone line. At first this thought had him feeling saddened but later it proved encouraging – it showed that there was still something for him to give back into society.
As Daniel Underwood prepared to board the van that would transport him to prison where he would spend 90 days, his mind drifted back to something Camille Downey had said; her words had hit like an electric bolt from behind but also felt rejuvenating.
Without baseball, Underwood felt disoriented and struggled to climb back out. Turning to alcohol for comfort, he eventually accrued two additional OWI charges resulting in his second prison stint.
Dan enjoyed spending his free time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had an affinity for classic Chevrolet cars, Victorian house design and architecture and historical war memorabilia; additionally he excelled at working his lawn.
Underwood dedicated his entire life to baseball. From high school through college at Bedford North Lawrence and Purdue, to coaching his brother’s summer travel team and mentoring younger players through Indianapolis Skiles Test youth league – where he served on both its board as All-Star coach – baseball was at the heart of everything he did.
As Underwood was being loaded onto the van to begin his 90-day prison sentence in 2013, Camille Downey’s words resonated in his head like an out of control 92 mph pitch; it marked his first momentary contemplation of life without baseball and felt himself sink into an irreversible darkness that threatened to swallow up everything else in its path.
