David Darden is a retired judge from Cobb County State Court in Georgia who recently retired from his position on the bench and is now employed as a mediator at Cole House Mediation in Marietta.
His practice primarily involves representing healthcare providers in the certificate of need program and providing advice on reimbursement disputes, Medicaid eligibility appeals and other health care-related matters. This experience allows him to offer a unique perspective in these matters.
Early Life and Education
Darden began her career as a mathematics instructor at Russell High School in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Later she relocated to Petersburg and attended in-service classes for higher mathematics at Virginia State College (now Virginia State University).
After graduating from VSC with a Master of Science degree, she moved to NASA Langley Research Center and joined their aerospace engineering division. Her initial assignment was writing a computer program that emulated the sound of sonic booms – shock waves produced when an aircraft flew faster than sound can travel.
At NASA, she spearheaded the creation of a program to reduce sonic booms. Additionally, she established partnerships with industrial manufacturers and academic institutions for research into this phenomenon.
Darden’s professional experience spans a broad range of business knowledge and leadership. He was part of the board of directors for an Atlanta-based real estate investment firm and previously served as attorney at Downey & Cleveland Law Firm in Marietta.
He possesses extensive expertise and experience in commercial litigation, particularly complex business disputes and civil claims arising from corporate transactions. He has successfully negotiated, documented and completed numerous deals while acting as outside “in-house” counsel to numerous private enterprises.
David is a licensed mortgage lender and serves as an advisor to financial institutions on lending, real estate and other business matters. Additionally, he is an active member of both the American Bar Association and Georgia State Bar.
Achievement and Honors
Dave’s leadership has enabled him to achieve many remarkable accomplishments. He served as President of The Darden Group Inc. and a member of the Iowa Board of Parole; additionally, he is an active Board Member for The American Heart Association.
His passion and love of family are evident in his caring, nurturing, and positive approach to everything he does. He and his wife Deonne have two children: Taylor and Chandlor.
As President of the American Heart Association, he leads an organization dedicated to improving health and addressing community needs through its Community Engagement and Impact program. Through this effort, he seeks to influence public policy decisions, increase physical education in schools, and provide health insurance access for low-income families.
Darden’s family was one of his greatest joys. He married Doris Blowe Darden in 1951 and they had four children: Glenn, Larry, Stephanie and Candace.
David is the co-founder and owner of Morgan Territory Brewing Company with his son Michael. Additionally, he has invested in multiple businesses and serves on the boards of several corporations.
He has long been a staunch ally of the University and its mission, recently making a $44 million gift to the School.
Darden University’s latest contribution will support three priorities of their Powered by Purpose campaign – faculty excellence and thought leadership, student experience, and Grounds and infrastructure. Additionally, it will aid in funding several major initiatives like $5 million for botanical gardens on North Grounds.
