Dave Mountain

Dave Mountain is an experienced professional guide. His vast knowledge about alpine, rock and ice climbing stems from his training with the American Mountain Guides Association.

He has led expeditions to Vinson, Aconcagua, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Ama Dablam, Gasherbrum II and the Rocky Mountains; additionally he served as staff trainer for Outward Bound and Patagonia.

Early Life and Education

Dave Mountain spent his summers as a child at Camp Alton in New Hampshire, playing on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Eventually he became both a counselor and athletic director there.

He was a natural born outdoorsman and was exposed to traditional Appalachian music from an early age. Ultimately, he attended Amherst College and graduated with a degree in history.

David was also an accomplished ski racer, winning the American Ski Classic and appearing regularly at local legends events.

His parents encouraged him to enjoy the outdoors and he developed an affinity for skiing. Additionally, he helped establish Vail Mountain School and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail.

Professional Career

David is a certified PGA Golf Professional with more than two decades of experience. He has played golf courses throughout Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.

He has been a pioneering force in safety programs at Pinkard Construction and was recognized by Associated Builders and Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter as the Tony Dietrich Safety Professional of the Year.

Dave loves snow and ice, as well as sharing his expertise with others about snow and avalanches. As Program Manager of the Utah Avalanche Center, his passion has become a reality.

Dave Mountain has accomplished a lot in his lifetime and he’s proud of it all. As an internationally acclaimed high-altitude mountain guide, he has reached the summit of Mount Everest fifteen times – making him the most successful non-Sherpa climber ever.

He was also involved in the expedition that discovered and identified George Mallory’s remains on Everest, as well as guiding seven times through South Georgia Island on their Shackleton Traverse route.

David Brower was raised in the small high-mountain town of Climax, Colorado and developed an appreciation for nature’s bounty. He loved his family and friends dearly and strived tirelessly every day to achieve success.

His father’s work in the mountain skiing industry had a major influence on him; he took his children skiing at Chalk Mountain when they were very young and instilled confidence, loyalty and trustworthiness among teammates.

In 1986, while working as a river guide in Denali National Park in Alaska, Dave developed an interest in mountain biking. That summer he entered his first races and fell head over heels for the sport; since then he has raced both locally and abroad.
