Dave Ruden
Dave Ruden, a Former Stamford Advocate Sports Reporter, Launches a Blog
Dave Ruden, a Stamford Advocate reporter for over three decades, is departing the paper to launch “The Ruden Report,” an online blog he hopes will become the go-to source for sports news in Fairfield County. In addition to hosting Player of the Week polls and hosting weekly football shows on FCIAC radio, Ruden will continue his popular Player of the Week polls as well.
Early Life and Education
Dave Ruden was a junior at Union College when his professor noticed his aptitude for writing. Encouraging him to pursue this skill, Dave found success.
Dave decided to join a creative writing class that sought to help students express their own ideas through various media. He was greatly inspired by both the writing exercises and professor’s encouragement during class.
Dave was mentored by his professor, leading to careers at CBS, New York Times and ESPN. Now he’s applying his talents at the Ruden Report blog – set to become Fairfield County’s go-to source for sports news and commentary. Starting September 1, readers can expect high quality content ranging from sports coverage to human interest stories and profiles.
Professional Career
Dave Ruden began his career as a newspaper reporter at The Stamford Advocate. Later, he joined ESPN as an online producer and began covering sports for them.
He is creating “The Ruden Report,” a blog that highlights team and individual accomplishments with polls for Player of the Week and Team of the Week. The site will launch during the first week in September.
However, if one were to search “Stamford” on The Ruden Report’s Facebook page, they would only come up with four articles about the city in the past 10 months and 26 in 2017. Compare that with Wilton, Greenwich or Darien where one would find 38, 35 or 70 articles about their teams since 2018. This seems unjustly biased towards more affluent towns.
Achievements and Honors
Dave Ruden, a 1978 Staples graduate who read too much, found success as an author by chance when his professor encouraged him to write about sports. That decision launched him on a career at CBS, the New York Times and ESPN; now he’s leaving The Advocate for an online blog called “The Ruden Report.”
He’s become a staple in the region by providing coverage of FCIAC high school sports. Not only do his updates cover all teams, but he also hosts his own FCIAC football show and offers Player and Team of the Week polls for readers to vote on. Recently, however, the site transitioned from free to subscription-style news; subscribers must now pay at least $25 in order to access content.
Personal Life
Dave is an enthusiastic Westport and Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference fan, believing in the power of hard work to achieve success. Recently, the former Staples graduate left his post at Stamford Advocate to launch The Ruden Report: an online sports blog featuring articles covering high school sports news as well as FCIAC football game updates, plus interactive videos. Plus, The Ruden Report is free and downloadable as an eBook so you don’t have to carry around a heavy paper copy around with you all day long!
Net Worth
Dave Ruden has amassed a net worth of $800,000 through his successful career as a sports reporter. He is renowned for his fair, sensitive and insightful reporting on high school athletics. After working for over 30 years with The Stamford Advocate newspaper staff covering Fairfield County high schools, Ruden recently decided to launch “The Ruden Report,” his blog which will focus on high school football and other FCIAC sports with commentary on players, coaches and administrators within the conference; plus he’ll host weekly football shows featuring commentary on players, coaches and administrators within the conference; all beginning in September!
