Professional Career
Babcock is a professional hockey coach who led the Detroit Red Wings to victory in the 2008 Stanley Cup and earned gold at both IIHF World Championships and Olympics. As such, he is the only coach to gain entrance into the Triple Gold Club.
He served as player-coach for the Whitley Warriors of the United Kingdom in 1987. Prior to that he played for Saskatoon Blades of Western Hockey League (1980-81) and Kelowna Wings (1982-83) of Canada’s National Hockey League (1983).
He spent one season as the head coach for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in Alberta, earning Canada West coach-of-the year honors. Subsequently, he led WHL Spokane Chiefs to a 224-172-29 record and twice won recognition as West Division coach of the year.
