David castleberry has always had a passion for teaching and working with students. At Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia Hills, she has taught both special needs and gifted students alike, ensuring they receive the education they deserve.

She was instrumental in Pizitz School’s transformation from a traditional middle school to its current family-oriented institution, as well as setting its mascot and colors.

After 23 years of service at Pizitz School, she retired on January 1. She will be missed by students and faculty alike at Pizitz; however, she plans to stay connected by working as a substitute teacher and continuing in a supportive role. Most of all though, she will miss the positive atmosphere created at the school along with all her students.

As a professor at Marshall University since 1990, he directed the MU Chamber Choir that earned national recognition with its performance at Charleston, South Carolina’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival and has performed at numerous ACDA conventions.

Personal Life

David Castleberry was a native of Conecuh County, Alabama and an ardent supporter of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He retired as Vice President and General Manager from T.R. Miller Mill Company after having dedicated 44 years to their success.

He served as President of the American Choral Directors Association twice and on its Editorial Board. Additionally, he frequently guest conducted and presented clinics for ACDA members around the country.

He married his High School sweetheart and they have two sons. When not riding motorcycles or playing golf, the couple loves spending time at their family cabin in Northern California’s mountains. Additionally, they are involved with community volunteer work and civic activities.
