Early Life and Education
David Crowell was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a long-time teacher and the youngest of four children.
As a graduate of the University of Iowa, he joined the United States Public Health Corps Reserve and then enlisted in the Marines. He met his future wife Doris Collins while taking a psychology seminar; they would remain married for 67 years.
Composer, saxophonist, and producer David Crowell has a singular vision that unites various genres of composed and improvised music. He has received recognition and support from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, ASCAP, Innova Recordings, Bang-on-a Can Summer Marathon, MATA Society for New Music, and ClefWorks.

Professional Career
Crowell is an accomplished musician and composer renowned for his “unique vision that transcends genre” (Exclaim). His compositions have been performed internationally at Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Modern Art and Merkin Hall.
He is also an educator, teaching saxophone, flute, clarinet and composition at the Bloomingdale School of Music in New York City. In addition to his teaching duties there, he has completed commissions for their A4TY program as well as compositions for ensembles such as JACK Quartet, Alarm Will Sound and NOW Ensemble.
He has a deep-seated desire to help people, particularly young people, through his scholarship foundation. As an active supporter of Oral Roberts University and one of the founding founders of Crusader Scholarship Fund that benefits ORU students, his passion has been realized.
