He worked at the station for more than 30 years and passed away Monday at age 56.
Early Life and Education
David Tongen was born on December 14, 1941 in West Bank Township, Swift County and attended Appleton High School before continuing his education at Moorehead State University.
Dave was an accomplished artist who began his career with pencil drawings. Over time, he experimented with different media such as ink, oil and wood carvings. Additionally, Dave had a deep-seated appreciation for nature and horses.
Dave was a true Minnesota Viking who always put his family first. He loved spending time with his children, grandkids and great-grandkids; his kind heart will be missed by all his friends and family alike. Dave worked hard to support his community as well as take care of himself personally when needed. He will be greatly missed by his many admirers.

Once his passing was announced, colleagues, friends and fans took to social media to mourn him. Survived by his wife Karen; two sons Tyler and Ryker; as well as brothers Michael and Chris; the local media reported that the star of their memorial service would be a video display featuring several of his colleagues including co-anchor Neki Mohan.

Todd was a proud Floridian and dedicated family man, serving on numerous committees and philanthropic organizations during his free time. On October 5, 2021, Dave Tongen passed away at the age of 67. He was an acclaimed artist renowned for his intricate carving and painting of wildlife and Old West sculptures.
He was born on August 26, 1902 to Hans and Gunhild (Hegne) Foss in Friendship Township, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church.
After graduating from New Richmond High School, he joined the Marine Corps and married Connie Anderson. Together they were blessed with four children: Ryan, Jenny, Amy and Scott.
He cherished spending time with his family and hunting in Clear Lake each year. He also enjoyed attending sporting events and riding his motorcycle. Additionally, he helped out with the NR Hockey Association as a zamboni driver and rink flooder. Furthermore, he served as trustee at his church and served on its Finance Council.
