Gay Cowboy Fans
There are some gay cowboy fans who just can’t resist the mythos of the American West. Though they don’t carry the same stereotypical gay associations as sailors do, cowboys remain an important part of macho gay male iconography. As such, cowboys can be found in Western-themed works, from Samurai Cowboy to Cattle Punk. If there’s a macho gay flavor, cowboys are almost always at the top of the list.
If you’re a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, you’ve probably heard of the new series ‘We The Fans Dallas’ on ESPN. The film crew followed 12 Dallas Cowboys fans during the 2017 NFL season. One of these is an interracial gay couple, Tim Sehon and Justin McCurry. They met at a friend’s game night, and got close due to their competitive nature. Justin McCurry was teased frequently in high school for being gay.
There are some other film projects starring gay cowboys, such as Brokeback Mountain, a 1996 film directed by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. The film won the Best Director award at the Los Angeles Film Critics Circle, and was praised by several film critics groups.
