Blessed George Preca, affectionately known to his Maltese friends as Dun Gorg, founded the Society of Divine Compassion (SDC), which can now be found across Malta, England, Albania, Kenya and Peru.

He is renowned for his tireless efforts to spread devotion to the Incarnation. To this end, he wanted all SDC members to wear a badge bearing the words “Verbum Dei caro factum est!”

Early Life and Education

George Blessed was born on February 12th 1880 in Valletta, Malta and grew up in Hamrun before receiving his first Holy Communion at St Cajetan’s Parish Church.

After graduating from his educational pursuits, George entered the Seminary of Malta in 1905 with aspirations of becoming a priest. However, after experiencing a profound mystical encounter in 1905, he felt God calling him to serve as spiritual advisor for lay people.

He then formed a group of young people to attend his spiritual conferences. Ultimately, they established the Society of Christian Doctrine (Societas Papidum et Papidissarum) in Hamrun as an outlet for his teachings.

Matulaitis became convinced that the Church needed new religious communities. This inspired him to broaden his horizons and focus on social action, becoming involved in helping laborers, widows and orphans.

Professional Career

George has had a distinguished professional career in chiropractic medicine, possessing advanced training in physical therapy, radiology, decompression therapy for scoliosis and spinal trauma as well as whiplash treatment.

He is a member of both the American Chiropractic Association and International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, as well as having earned certification by Southern California University of Health Sciences to serve as Supervising Physician.

He takes great joy in serving others both professionally and personally. A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he serves as an ordinance worker at Bountiful Temple with his wife Shellie. Their four sons have blessed them with 13 beautiful grandchildren.

George Blessed has also made a name for himself as an accomplished film director and actor by participating in humanitarian causes, such as producing three telethons. Additionally, he was named a United Nations Messager of Peace for his efforts in raising awareness about mass atrocities around the world.

He also established the Society of Christian Doctrine, composed of lay people who live a model life and are well-trained in Catholic doctrine. They are sent out to educate others about this faith.

He also advocated for the need to care for those who had less. As a result, he founded the Christian Workers Union which provided spiritual and financial support to laborers.
