Gerlach was a German artist renowned for his landscape and flower paintings. His artworks were displayed throughout Germany, France, and Italy.
In 1863 he immigrated to the United States and immediately began working in the drug business. While studying medicine alongside, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1874.
Early Life and Education
George Gerlach was born on February 8, 1863 in Virden, Illinois to Franz Joseph and Mary (Gilmartin) Gerlach.
After graduating high school, he pursued medicine. Subsequently, he moved to Philadelphia and entered the drug business.
He was a renowned painter, known for his landscape and flower paintings. Tragically, Gerlach passed away in 1962. Survived by two daughters and four grandchildren, he was an active member of the American Legion; charter member of Adam Miller Post No. 133 American Legion in Culbertson where he served as past commander; past master of Culbertson Lodge 174 AF&AM; patron of OES Bethel chapter at Culbertson; etc.

George Gerlach was an accomplished baseball player renowned for his talents as a shortstop.
He began his professional career with the Chicago White Sox, joining them in late summer 1938. Throughout five seasons in the majors, he achieved success before entering military service.
He was an accomplished artist, painting landscapes and flowers with stunning details. Additionally, his artwork has been showcased in numerous galleries and museums around the world.

George Gerlach, son of Franz Joseph and Mary (Gilmartin) Gerlach, was born at Virden, Illinois on February 8, 1863. Although his father taught him stonemasonry skills, George found no enjoyment in it; rather he earned his living by hoeing corn for fifty cents per day.
In February 1885, John J. Gerlach joined his brother at Horse Creek Dugout, seven miles north of Canadian, Texas, and established the Road Ranch and Store.
They later relocated to Clear Creek and Canadian, operating the Gerlach Brothers Road Ranch and Store until 1925. Survived by his wife of 81 years, six children, 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, he was predeceased by both of his parents.
