George Oneal has been with GVTC since 2006. He is the driving force behind their expansive Fiber-to-the-Home network and transformation to an all IP, broadband-driven infrastructure.
Ronnie Oneal III will spend the remainder of his life in prison for the horrific deaths of his girlfriend and 9-year-old daughter, a jury determined Friday. After hearing evidence for three weeks, the panel determined no aggravating circumstance outweighed any mitigating ones.
Early Life and Education
George O’Neal was raised in a family that valued education. His education was grounded in practical experience, yet also allowed him to read widely and gain an expansive perspective of the world around him.
He attended school in Las Animas, Colorado before continuing on to Otero Junior College where he studied drafting and history. With an interest in historical events, he was always eager to learn new things.
He was an amazing father, farmer and friend who loved life. Survived by his wife Christina Oneal and children J.D., Price, and George; as well as numerous friends and neighbors; he is predeceased by his Mother Velma Fern Malone, father George Oliver O’Neal and stepfather Price Malone.
Professional Career
George Oneal is an expert GVTC network engineer who has created a scalable and modern communications infrastructure to accommodate an array of high-speed internet services. He was instrumental in transitioning GVTC’s telephone and cable TV networks into today’s modern day infrastructure.
He was also instrumental in the largest network upgrade in GVTC’s history, an undertaking that took years to complete and required unprecedented collaboration among executives, engineers and contractors.
Despite the daunting challenge of scaling and redesigning a network that served over 43,000 customers, everyone involved enjoyed an improved experience in the end.
Oneal was recognized for his achievements with the title of President of the Year and also received honorary titles as first vice president and highest ranking executive on GVTC Safety Committee – positions which he still holds to this day.

George Oneal exemplified academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, personal engagement in the community and a dedication to making the world a better place. He was also renowned for his culinary talents; serving as Research Chef for BP’s Spirit of the Gulf campaign at the London Olympics.
He earned numerous awards and honors throughout his career, such as the AAUP’s Outstanding Graduate in Teaching Award, National Association for Colleges and Employers’ Lifetime Award for Excellence in Education, and Lafayette College President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and American Association for the Advancement of Science. Additionally, he belongs to UAB Alumni Association and Louisiana Historical Society.
Personal Life
George O’Neal was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky and an attorney and Mason.
John A. O’Neal is survived by his wife Marilyn R.; daughters Annette Maier, Beverly Robbins, Christina Estes and Jennifer O’Neal; son John A. O’Neal; brother Dan (Debbie) O’Neal; sisters Sharon “Sue” Miller and Fran Haymaker.
On February 22nd 2014 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky at 87 years old, George Olive O’Neal passed away. Born in Woodford County on September 27th 1928 he had been a long-time member and pastor of the First Baptist Church where he served for many years as its leader and pastor.
He was also a member of the American Legion and Sons of Union Veterans during the Civil War, predeceased by his father George Oliver O’Neal and mother Velma Fern Malone.
