George and Marla Theofel P’22 of Dallas have made a generous $250,000 gift that will create the Theofel Family Mental Health Endowment at Elon University. This endowment will enable us to expand mental health programs and services for all students at Elon.

The couple’s generosity comes as mental health challenges on college campuses nationwide have received unprecedented attention, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic uncertainty. Their gift will support Elon University’s ongoing initiatives to educate students about mental health, give them confidence to ask for help when needed, and connect them to necessary services.

Early Life and Education

George Theofel, P’22 has extensive expertise in law and real estate. As a Partner at SCHNITZLER & KRUPMAN, his practice encompasses general litigation, banking and bankruptcy law, corporate reorganization and mergers & acquisitions. Additionally, George excels at negotiation techniques as well as estate planning, trusts and taxation. A native Californian by birthright, George holds degrees from University of Notre Dame (BBA), Columbus School of Law and Catholic University of America (Juris Doctor).

George Theofel is a renowned professional with an inclination towards philanthropy, having generously supported many of Elon University’s high impact initiatives such as The Inn at Elon, Love School of Business, Elon’s Greatest Needs and Elon Day–the university’s biggest day for giving.

Professional Career

George is a successful entrepreneur, angel investor and management consultant. After founding CLaM Associates (later Availant), George built the company from scratch with hard work and determination into over 160+ employees with an international customer base. After selling Availant, George became an active angel investor and management consultant to assist other startup businesses in reaching success.

Marla Theofel, a partner at Finnegan, Marks, Theofel & Desmond, is an experienced Longshore attorney specializing in defending employers and carriers against claims under the Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and its extensions. She regularly lectures at seminars regarding Longshore claims as well as cross-over claims and subrogation cases. Furthermore, Marla handles state and federal compensation cases. Admitted to practice before United States District Court for Northern District of California, District of Puerto Rico and all courts located therein, Marla has ample expertise at her disposal!

George Theofel is an esteemed American lawyer with deep expertise in business and financial law, such as mergers and acquisitions, taxation, financing and real estate. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, a Juris Doctor degree from Saint John’s University and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

He and his wife Marla (P’22 of Dallas) recently made a gift to create the Theofel Family Mental Health Endowment at Elon University to support counseling services for all students. With this endowment, counseling will become more accessible across campus, creating an atmosphere of wellbeing at Elon and encouraging students to reach out when needed.

George Theofel is an experienced attorney who takes pleasure in aiding people solve their problems. His practice encompasses litigation, taxation and real estate law. Currently, he’s a partner at SCHNITZLER & KRUPMAN. George earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame; later earning a Juris Doctor from St. John’s University followed by a master’s in taxation from New York University School of Law.

He and his wife Marla Theofel P’22 are philanthropists who have made numerous gifts to Elon University. One such contribution is the Theofel Family Mental Health Endowment, which will expand counseling services for all students on campus as part of Elon’s LEADS Campaign which aims to promote mental health and wellness among its students.
