Henry Stadler

Stadler is the author of several books including International Handbook of White-Collar Crime (Springer) and Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Additionally, he has presented papers and testified before numerous domestic and international government agencies and organizations.

Mr. Hoadley is actively involved in Terre Haute community by supporting Rose-Hulman tennis, Terre Haute South boys’ soccer and Junior Achievement as well as Ducks Unlimited, Strawberry Hill Cannoneers and Pheasants Forever.

Early Life and Education

Henry Stadler was raised on a farm north of Carbondale before graduating from Carbondale High School in 1969. Following that he attended Rose-Hulman and studied mechanical engineering. While at Rose-Hulman he participated in wrestling team competition and was honored with induction into Carbondale Hall of Fame. Furthermore he participated in MDA Labor Day rides as top donor over several years.

He was married to Judy Rassie Stadler and they had two sons together. Other members of his immediate family include his sister Staci Stadler Tryon as well as brother-in-laws Rod (Penny) Harbaugh and David Dyer.

He made significant contributions at Ford research laboratories, from basic research to engine design for fuel economy. He pioneered hybrid vehicle design and has designed many engine models such as turbines. Additionally, he received several awards throughout his career before being honored as a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Professional Career

Henry was an active community leader and tireless volunteer, contributing his time and talents to numerous organizations ranging from Terre Haute Junior Tennis and Boys Scouts to Vigo County Children’s Museum.

His quick wit and unexpected office pranks made him an enjoyable colleague, while his deep industry knowledge and commitment to helping others develop set him apart from his colleagues. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family; vacationing on Anna Maria Island or hiking national parks were particularly enjoyable experiences for him.

Stadler currently serves as President of Marsh McLennan Agency’s Southwest Region, overseeing 13 offices and over 1,100 employees located throughout Texas and Louisiana. He provides strategic leadership of these operations.

Achievement and Honors

Henry’s quick wit (and unexpected office pranks!) helped propel Thompson Thrift into the multifaceted development and construction company it is today. His industry knowledge, strong work ethic, and desire to help others flourish made him an outstanding leader whom others sought out to learn from and serve with.

He was honored to become part of Columbia’s inaugural class for the Anderson Society Award, given out annually to those students who best represent its mission through leadership in co-curricular activities.

Establish in honor of Alan J. Willen ’64, ’66. This award honors those Columbia College or GS students who write the most outstanding essay in modern history.

Personal Life

Henry Stadler takes great pleasure in spending his personal life with his family, playing tennis and being part of Terre Haute South High School boys team for three years. Additionally, he enjoys riding his bike, watching NASCAR races, hunting and fishing and has an affinity for guns and cars.

Stadler may be best known for his writing about Edgar Allan Poe, Louisa May Alcott and Henry James but he also has more contemporary interests; for the last two years he has been conducting extensive research on folk musician Woody Guthrie in preparation for writing about him in an upcoming book.

In An Intimate Life, he draws out the complexity of Guthrie’s character and circumstances to give her an authentic human voice. Furthermore, he draws attention to ableism within many commentaries that misinterpret Guthrie’s sexuality as being caused by Huntington’s disease.

Net Worth

Over the past year, several of New York City’s richest residents saw their net worth grow significantly due to strong growth in health care industries like health care. He amassed his fortune through OrNda HealthCorp, which he converted into stock and options after its sale to Tenet Healthcare in 1997. Additionally, he served as major investor/director at Kinetic Concepts of San Antonio which provides systems designed to speed healing for surgery complications, injuries and obesity cases.

He holds stakes in Neill-Sandler Toyota, Buick, GMC Truck, Ford Lincoln Mercury dealerships; Fifth Quarter restaurants; several Belle Meade Boulevard homes and two eucalyptus tree farms in South America. Through a trust for his children he owns nearly 40% of Central Parking Corp shares worth more than $350 million; these shares can also be controlled through his estate plan.
