Toby Keith’s latest single, “Oklahoma Breakdown” will re-ship to country radio
Whether you have heard of Toby Keith or not, you are probably familiar with his wildly successful career. Since his debut in 1996, he has recorded more than 100 million terrestrial radio spins and he has charted more than 32 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot Country charts. He’s received three BMI Country Song of the Year awards, one of which he won in 2006. He’s also been honored by the Academy of Country Music with the Merle Haggard Spirit Award.
Keith’s latest single, “Oklahoma Breakdown,” is the second single off of his new album, Peso In My Pocket. It will be released to country radio on June 1. The song was co-written by Michael Hosty, who also wrote Keith’s previous hit, “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay”.
In addition to being the most-streamed single of Keith’s career, “Oklahoma Breakdown” also enjoyed the highest chart debut of his career. The song’s release comes as Toby Keith prepares for his tour this summer. The singer and songwriter is known for his patriotic sentiments and his support of the military. He has performed more than two-hundred USO events and has raised more than $1 million for the OK Kids Korral, a cost-free home for families of children with critical illnesses or medical complications.
Toby Keith’s career
During the 1990s, Toby Keith was one of the country’s strongest stars. His self-titled debut album sold over two million copies and the number one single “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” hit the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. His career was also enhanced by the fact that he has appeared in several movies.
In 2006, Keith starred in a film called Broken Bridges, which was directed by Steven Goldmann. The movie was a contemporary story set in a small town in Tennessee. The film stars Burt Reynolds, Lindy Haun, Kelly Preston and Tess Harper.
In 1999, Keith departed Mercury Records and signed a deal with the Nashville division of DreamWorks. He released two albums on Polydor Records. His debut single, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” hit the pop Top 25 and the country Top 10.
“Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” was a protest song in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Although it was a commercial success, it also became an intensely patriotic song. It was later condemned as knee-jerk jingoism. This led to national interviews and public performances.
