The Jenny Jones Kid and Jonathan Schmitz

If you’ve been watching the television in the last few years, you probably saw an episode of The Jenny Jones Show. It was a daytime show that featured makeovers, secret crushes, paternity tests, and spoofs. Though the show aired for several years, its ratings never seemed to reach the peak they did when the show first premiered in 1991.

The show started in September 1991 and was broadcast nationally. After a year, it was cancelled due to declining ratings. When it was re-launched in 2003, the show had to deal with its own controversy. One of its former guests, Jonathan Schmitz, was accused of murdering a fellow guest, Scott Amedure.

As a result of the trial, the show became a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the victim’s family. However, the family’s claim was later overturned. In an initial ruling, the court awarded the family $25 million. But, in a second ruling, the award was overturned and replaced by a two-to-one ratio.

After the trial, the show continued to air, but ratings declined. This was only the beginning of Jenny’s troubles. She landed in a legal minefield when her former guests revealed a secret crush on her.

Jonathan Schmitz, who appeared on the show, confessed to shooting Scott Amedure to death. He said he was embarrassed. At the time, he believed he was there to get back together with his girlfriend. Upon seeing the woman in the audience, he thought she was his secret admirer.

When it was all over, Schmitz turned himself in to police and was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison. He has since been released on parole. Since then, he has remained out of the spotlight.

During his time on the show, he also made an appearance in an episode about a secret crush. His was a bit more dramatic than Amedure’s. Besides being a revelation, the episode also led to a murder.

Afterward, the trial resulted in a conviction and Schmitz was found guilty. On top of that, the jury was told that The Jenny Jones Show was negligent, a fact that was backed up by an investigation that uncovered numerous problems with the show. Although the ruling was favorable to the victim’s family, they still had their share of pain and suffering.
