John Lant

John Lant is an established veteran in the entertainment industry with 35+ years of experience as both a creative entity and/or production manager for over 600 television, film, and theatrical productions.

He has collaborated on numerous national tours, such as Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Singin’ in the Rain and One Mo’ Time. Additionally, he mounted shows at Cal Arts, Ricardo Montalban Powerhouse Glendale Center Hollywood Playhouse and Write Act Repertory Company.

Early Life and Education

Lant’s life was marked by a deep family legacy of faith and service to others. He and his wife Cheryl Clark Lant are proud parents to nine children and 21 grandchildren.

He received his education at Magdalen College, Oxford and graduated with first class honours in botany.

His DPhil dissertation focused on the interaction between plant roots, fungi and bacteria; however, he wasn’t particularly engaged by this topic and believed it to be a dead end (63).

John’s passion for teaching can be seen through his experiments for undergraduate practical classes while still a DPhil student. Additionally, he was part of the Nuffield Science Teaching Project which sought to enhance methods of science instruction in secondary schools.

Professional Career

Lant is an accomplished entertainment industry veteran who has worked on over 500 television, film and theatrical productions as either a creative entity or above the line entity. He currently resides in New York and works at Carnegie Hall.

He began his professional career at Alliance Theatre in Atlanta and has since then collaborated with Lincoln Center, Juilliard, Circle Rep, WPA, LOOM Equity Library Lamb’s Ensemble Studio Theatre as well as numerous national tours including Phantom of the Opera Evita Singin’ In The Rain and One Mo’ Time Aeros.

He has produced theatre in Los Angeles and currently serves as Producing Artistic Director of Write Act Repertory in North Hollywood, CA. His recent projects include 150 Off-Broadway performances of Fabulous! The Queen of Musical Comedies. Additionally, he and Nathan Goldman co-own The Black Heart – an immersive theater company focused on horror genre plays.

In his free moments, he enjoyed reading books about plants and other animals, as well as playing various instruments for music.

John had many of the characteristics of a great scientist: enthusiasm, an interest in spreading his work, and an openness to new ideas. This attitude helped him achieve world-wide recognition in population biology research. Among John’s most significant accomplishments were founding of the Unit of Population Biology and creating an innovative experimental teaching approach for undergraduate practical instruction.
