John McKaie
John McKaie – Boxing Hall of Famer
John Freeman Mackie served in the United States Marine Corps during the American Civil War and earned himself the nation’s highest military decoration for valor — the Medal of Honor — for his actions aboard the USS Galena during the Battle of Drewry’s Bluff.

Early Life and Education
John was born in Killara, Sydney, Australia to Alexander Mackie – a school principal – and Annie Burnett (nee Duncan).
He received his education at Knox Grammar School and then pursued an Honours degree in Greek and Latin at Oxford University, where he earned a Wentworth travelling fellowship before embarking on his BA (MA) in philosophy with first-class honors.
He began as a lecturer at the University of Sydney, eventually being appointed Challis professor of philosophy. In addition to teaching moral and political philosophy, he was an accomplished author who made significant contributions in philosophy of religion, metaphysics, and language philosophy.
Professional Career
The Flushing, NY native has presided over nearly 800 fights, many of them world championship bouts. He’s served on the judges panel for boxers such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miquel Cotto.
He has competed in both welterweight and light heavyweight divisions of boxing. His greatest career win came at welterweight when he earned an eight-round majority decision over Mike Ruiz, former WBA junior welterweight champion.
McKaie possesses the quickest moves, giving him the potential to be the next big thing in New York City boxing. For now, he’s focused on his studies at Cornell University where he hopes to earn a degree in General Biology/Microbiology with plans to attend medical school. When not studying, McKaie enjoys playing intramural volleyball and sprint football as well as teaching assistantship classes for chemistry and biochemistry classes.

When not studying, John enjoys playing football and intramural volleyball for Cornell University as well as tutoring students in Levitsky Lab. Additionally, he loves watching TV shows and hanging out with friends.
McKie, a native of Flushing, New York, has judged hundreds of fights – including 23 world championships – and earned himself a reputation for his hard work and integrity. A passionate animal lover, McKie fosters animals from the local shelter to give them a happy life; this has made him an effective judge and trainer. When not at work, McKie enjoys reading books and cooking up new recipes to share with his family and friends.
