Early Life and Education

For more than nine years, John Sherer served as the president of Davidson College. During this time, he was also instrumental in the creation of the institution’s music programs. He was responsible for a total of eighty musical events annually.

After leaving Davidson, Sherer remained in Virginia to serve as pastor of a church in Spring Hill. During his time there, he was introduced to the work of Grand Master Richard A. Dickerscheid, who emphasized using the tools of the craft. His work on Masonic symbols is still valuable to this day.

Sherer’s early life and education were rich in classical music. From an early age, he received a wealth of awards for his musical skills. In high school, he participated in the chorus program, studied piano and flute, and began performing with the Santa Fe Opera.
