Matthew McConaughey’s Oscar Speech That Broke the Internet
One of the most exciting parts of the internet is that it allows us to share and consume content at an unimaginable speed. It’s also where some of the best and most exciting stories in the world can take place – from breaking news to funny celebrity photos, the internet is a veritable fountain of information.
The Oscars are just around the corner, and there are a lot of things to look forward to this year, from the biggest awards ceremonies of all time to new movies hitting theaters and of course, all of the speeches. So we’ve rounded up a collection of the most notable speeches that broke the internet.
Matthew McConaughey – Oscar-winning actor, best-selling author, and Hollywood star – took to the White House briefing room podium Tuesday for a high-profile speech in support of gun control laws. He stressed the need for tighter controls on firearms, including background checks, red flag laws, and raising the minimum age for purchasing guns.
His spiel was short, but sweet and to the point. The actor was quick to acknowledge that while the latest crop of firearms laws have made the country a safer place, they are not enough. He said responsible gun owners like him are “fed up” with the Second Amendment being abused by irresponsible individuals.
He urged his fellow celebrities to show up at their local high schools and colleges this month to help raise awareness for gun safety and support a variety of efforts from the National Rifle Association and Stand Up To Cancer to the National School Safety Alliance.
