New Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia
New Cabell Hall is a 1950’s academic building located in the heart of the historic campus. It is the largest building on campus and houses 175 offices and 40 classrooms. A major restoration began in 2008, bringing the facility up to modern standards and adding amenities for students and occupants. The renovation included new furnishings, technology, lighting, and mechanical systems.
The renovation of New Cabell Hall was designed to support the university’s environmental mission. A 20% water reduction was achieved through the use of low-flow fixtures and rainwater harvesting. An improved mechanical system and demand-controlled ventilation increased energy efficiency and comfort. More interior glazing increased daylighting. Additionally, interior finishes improve light reflectivity and acoustic privacy.
