Oratory Hockey

Oratory hockey will boast a strong defense led by returning seniors Declan Heffernan and Tom Lamonte, with sophomores Jeff Jarvis and Luke Jacobello poised to score major points on offense.

In 2013, Claude Giroux first used the term “pigeon” to taunt another player; but its roots go much deeper.

Early Life and Education

The Oratory School is a smaller school where pupils benefit from building meaningful relationships with teachers who know their strengths and weaknesses. Within its supportive community, pupils have ample opportunity to explore their individual gifts and qualities both inside the classroom as well as through its wide selection of extra-curricular activities on offer.

Oratory Prep’s first year of varsity hockey may only be short, but coach Silio Garcia and his Rams squad are looking forward to achieving great things this year. Senior defensemen Michael Middlebrook and Jake Gretz will lead Oratory Prep through its inaugural campaign.

Oratory’s senior forwards Liam Breen, Jack Bizub and Thomas Hegeman should score many goals this season. Additionally, freshman Aiden Wright is expected to contribute with his smooth skating ability and high hockey IQ.

Achievement and Honors

Oratory Prep Boys Hockey team boasts an excellent group of upperclassmen returning, led by Jeff Jarvis, who hit 100 points last season, and Luke Jacobello, who led them in scoring, who should all contribute toward reaching Kelly Cup glory. Furthermore, newcomers Tyler Gobel and Peter Lease should provide plenty of offensive punch in McMullen division play.

Personal Life

Oratory Prep hockey’s inaugural varsity season saw all of the joys and sorrows that accompany being on a hockey team, from last-second game-winners to tough losses against some of the state’s best opponents. Their hard work paid off though; as they finished with 13 wins and 8 losses. Now looking ahead, this year the Rams hope to build upon that success with an influx of underclassmen forwards, including last season’s point leaders such as Jeff Jarvis, Luke Jacobello and Michael Crapser returning, their offense should remain formidable this year.

Montclair Kimberley Ice Hockey endured one of their hardest blows of last season in their final game, yet will not allow this loss to deter their enthusiasm this winter. Boasting an experienced roster and new talent such as Jeff Jarvis (over 100 points as junior) and Luke Jacobello (one of New Jersey’s Top 50 Sophomores), MKA will look to gain back power up front this season.

MKA School hosts numerous other sporting teams, such as its 1st XI girls’ rugby team which won both Berkshire League and EFSA Cup trophies in 2022. MKA also stands out in fencing and tennis.
