Early life experiences and educational attainment both play an integral part in shaping total and active life expectancies. Adults with more years of education typically spend fewer years functionally impaired compared to those who did not receive as many years of schooling, yet this does not mitigate health implications from less privileged childhoods – this finding fits with models in which physiological systems leave lasting impressions upon individuals from adverse early experiences.
