Middletown High School Senior Jake Strickler

Jake Strickler of Middletown High School stands out in an age of sports specialization as an all-around performer, excelling as quarterback, shooting guard and pitcher during Middletown”s 2006-07 sports season.

Strickler has lectured at Virginia CLE seminars throughout Virginia on workers” compensation matters and represented employees before the Virginia Workers” Compensation Commission.

Early Life and Education

The Strickler family was one of Middletown and Whispering Pines’s most distinguished. Grandma Ethel, daughter of Dale and Eva (Read) Strickler, was known for being an outstanding homemaker and was involved in community affairs.

Once graduated from K-State, Steve went on to work for Hoard’s Dairyman magazine as an editorial representative across the U.S. He traveled widely before returning home in 1979 – taking over ownership of his family farm operation and becoming its sole operator.

Yancey is a cofounder and former CEO of Kickstarter, author of This Could Be Our Future, and creator of Bentoism. He and his wife Emily currently reside at Clover Hollow Farm in rural Virginia with their three children; Yancey has spoken at venues like MoMA, Sundance & Tribeca Film Festivals as well as other events worldwide.

Professional Career

Strickler has extensive experience designing, engineering and overseeing projects on construction sites throughout the US. This work includes geotechnical engineering, slope stability/repair work, land planning/planning review services as well as overall site assessments.

Strickler has also enjoyed success in dance, where he has produced nearly 200 works. These commissions include solo tap pieces for Heather Cornell’s Manhattan Tap Company in New York as well as Lane Alexander’s am/FM Dance Co. in Arizona – plus one ballet work created especially for Los Angeles Chamber Ballet.

Dr. Steven Strickler earned his medical degree from Des Moines University in 1990 and currently practices at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau, Alaska, which is affiliated with multiple other hospitals. Additionally, he accepts numerous insurance plans and holds board certification in Diagnostic Radiology with over 32 years of experience.

Achievement and Honors

At this year’s Honors Convocation, Centenary 2023 students were recognized for their accomplishments across academic departments and campus life, with several receiving extraordinary leader recognition at this event.

Strickler has made an impactful mark on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions circuits, amassing 12 victories on each tour and placing second twice in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Fred Strickler was an innovative tap dance artist and choreographer renowned for pushing the limits of tap dance through music, sound and movement to create works fusing jazz, classical and modern styles. As co-founder of the seminal Jazz Tap Ensemble he performed internationally before touring extensively himself – also appearing on PBS Special Gregory Hines’ Tap Dance in America as well as documentary Tapdancin.

Personal Life

Strickler is an avid outdoor enthusiast and regularly enjoys hiking, camping, fishing and hunting. Additionally, he owns and operates a dairy farm near Iola; every year since 2012 he has hosted annual Farm-City Day events on this family dairy farm to foster communication between urban and rural cousins.

He owns and operates a business which works with Dental and Veterinary practices across the US to provide financial planning, valuation, financing and cash flow projection services. His firm has assisted numerous physicians with practice acquisitions or sales.

Strickler is an accomplished dancer and has performed his choreographic version of the Tap Dance Concerto across the United States with orchestras across the nation. Additionally, he toured with American Ballet Theatre as an associate dancer before acting as dance critic for Dance Magazine.
