Steven Thodos, 33, of Sterling, Va., Was Convicted of 11 Felonies in a Shootout at a Virginia Walmart on Jan. 2

Steven Edward Thodos of Sterling was recently sentenced to 159 years, of which 60 are to serve. He was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder and three other felonies following a shooting at Dulles Crossing Plaza Walmart on January 2.

Police said two loss prevention employees confronted Thodos for suspected shoplifting and began an altercation, during which he pulled out his firearm and fired multiple rounds, striking one of the loss prevention employees and two store workers with bullets.

Early Life and Education

Steven Thodos of Sterling has been charged with 11 felonies after an attack at a Virginia Walmart that left three civilian security guards and one sheriff’s deputy injured over the weekend. The suspect, now being held without bond at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Professional Career

Thodos has graced Broadway stages as Nikkkos in Legally Blonde and Drury Lane’s production of Billy Elliot, respectively. Additionally, he danced for Ohio Conservatory of the Performing Arts’ professional company as well as Kate Jablonski’s Off Broadway show Beyond Words.

He has trained intensively at both Los Angeles’ American Academy of Ballet summer intensive, as well as Chicago’s Visceral Dance Center and Dance Center Evanston. Additionally, he danced for Thodos Dance Chicago and Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and nationally with Same Planet Different World.

He has taught at numerous Chicagoland dance studios including Dance Center North in Gurnee and regularly serves as a guest teacher for Thodos and Midwest Cecchetti Council. Many of his former students have gone on to perform at Joffrey, Drury Lane’s Billy Elliott production, model Revolution Dance wear or attend college dance programs at Joffrey, University of Iowa LINES Ballet or River North.

At Thodos she served as dancer, rehearsal director and teacher; performing and touring both nationally and internationally. Additionally, she founded and co-directed gloATL: an arts infused community showcase.

Steven Thodos was found guilty on May 26 of attempted capital murder of a police officer, aggravated malicious wounding and using firearms for illegal purposes in commission of crimes, grand larceny as well as grand larceny charges – facing life imprisonment as a result.

At Walmart store in Dulles Crossing Plaza, two civilian security officers alleged that Thodos was shoplifting. After resisting their attempts to pat him down and search him, he pulled out a weapon and fired several rounds towards them, according to the sheriff’s office.
