Steven Dee Vickery, 40, from Sulphur Springs passed away Thursday at Heart Hospital Baylor in Plano after serving with Cross Spur Cowboy Church and The Colony Fire Department as a firefighter.
At Herman Jones LLP, he practiced complex litigation which included class action defense. Additionally, he assisted clients with intellectual property matters.
Early Life and Education
After graduating from UCLA, Steve began his legal career at a large international firm in Atlanta. With extensive experience handling complex litigation matters including class actions and business disputes for major domestic and international manufacturers, investment firms, real estate developers, aircraft owners and non-profits as his clients, Steve has garnered extensive experience handling complex litigation cases on behalf of individuals as well as large firms representing them all.
As Vickery battled cancer recurrences for nearly ten years, his family provided spiritual, emotional, and physical support. His faith sustained him during what must have been an agonizing treatment process.
He has a wife, two children and nine grandchildren; his hobbies include gardening, birdwatching and woodworking. Additionally, he is the author of books related to ecology and nature and has received various awards for his works.
Professional Career
As a child, Julia Vickery wanted to become a doctor and would practice “surgeries” on dolls and her John Deere tractor toy tractor. At Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, she majored in pre-med; however, after realizing her passion for helping others she decided instead on becoming a counselor.
Vickery joined MC as Vice President of Student Services in December, overseeing recruitment, enrollment, student records, financial aid, advising, counseling and student life activities. She has also played an instrumental role in developing and implementing academic technology at MC, such as creating an online learning management system and using student data as a tool to guide advisors’ work.
Eric and she share two children, Benton and Railey, who frequently accompany them to Michigan College basketball games and other university activities.

Steven Vickery has received multiple awards and accolades for his contributions to the music industry. He founded Mrs Casey Music, was on the Towersey Festival Board, was chairman of the Events Industry Forum, wrote for Access All Areas Magazine and served on its editorial team – among many other accomplishments!
He has received many honors for his community service, such as being named Houston Distinguished Citizen and receiving recognition by Gulf Coast Blood Bank for his contributions.
He has also received the Chris Lantz Memorial Journal of Entertainment and Technology Law Outstanding Service Award as well as Vanderbilt University School of Law’s Carl J. Ruskowski Clinical Legal Education Award.
Personal Life

He’s also a dedicated family man, living on Clements Close in Spencers Wood with his wife Charlotte and son Shaun. Additionally, both sister Lisa and brother-in-law Sean Thatcher live nearby with their respective partners and children Kadey-Leight and Kira-Louise.
He received both his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and JD from Vanderbilt Law School, and later joined the Georgia Bar. With extensive experience representing businesses, public entities and individuals in federal and state courts throughout Georgia.
