Thomas McIntosh was an American jazz trombonist and composer renowned for his compositions which have been performed by musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody and Milt Jackson.

He served as manager-secretary at Doncaster Rovers, Middlesbrough FC and then Everton FC before becoming famous for spotting and signing Dixie Dean.

Early Life and Education

Thomas McIntosh was born in Dallas, Texas to Rosetta Johnson and Freddie Lee McIntosh as their fourth of four children. Growing up with music and school as passions of his life, Thomas believed education to be key in leading a fulfilling existence; therefore becoming self-taught through manuals, books and videos in honing his abilities.

After college, he spent 40 years with Kansas City Power and Light, first as an apprentice tree trimmer before transitioning into journeyman tree trimmer duties. He enjoyed watching western films, solitaire, Nascar racing, gardening and working in his yard.

He was an active participant in his community, serving on various committees and receiving the 1992 UW-Green Bay Founders Association Award for Excellence in Community Outreach. Additionally, he opposed minority set asides in city hiring practices and questioned police use of excessive force.

Additionally, she participated in medical missions to Merido Mexico and rural Tennessee to donate medical assistance; her current practice location is Greenville South Carolina with husband Scott being another optometrist!

Through his career, he has garnered many awards and honors, such as being named as Nazareth College’s representative on the 2022-23 Men’s Golf All-Conference team.

At an institution level, he performed various committee duties and other responsibilities, and has also been actively engaged with community activities related to his field of expertise. Furthermore, he wrote several books and articles which have been widely popular worldwide and earned international acclaim; among his best-known works was “A History of Teesside Regiment”, for which Queen Elizabeth II awarded him with a CBE.

Personal Life

Thomas McIntosh was predeceased by his sister Annie Sue Henderson and brothers Lacy and Harold. He is survived by his wife Lena Mae; daughter Brandi Lee (Laymonde); grandchildren Chris Ison Young, Evan Laymonde Lee and Preston Thomas Lee; sister Laverne Allen of Dallas, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as Marsalis Avenue Church of Christ family of Duncanville as well as other extended family members.

After reaching his musical zenith during the 1960s, he spent some time as a film composer in Hollywood before returning to East Coast where he continued writing music and teaching at various conservatories while serving on several professional committees, such as being an active member of American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).

McIntosh’s works can be found in collections at museums and galleries worldwide. He is best-known for his abstract expressionist paintings featuring bold colors and geometric forms.

In the 1960s, he became an active participant in city politics, becoming elected to Philadelphia City Council representing its 29th ward.
