Ross served as president of North Carolina’s 17-campus University system for 10 years before taking on several additional responsibilities, such as serving on its Superior Court Bench and as president of Davidson College. Early Life and Education
Thomas Ross has served on the boards of five different companies and currently acts as president of the Volcker Alliance. Additionally, he served as former president of both Davidson College and UNC system before serving as state superior court judge and professor at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Before attending law school at the University of Houston, he interned at various criminal defense firms as well as with Texas Innocence Network advocating on behalf of wrongly accused people on death row. During law school he also interned for Texas Innocence Network as an intern advocating on their behalf.
As well as serving on the Boards of Bausch Health Company, Solta Medical, and Piedmont Angel Network he holds an undergraduate degree from Davidson College and a graduate degree from University of North Carolina.

Thomas Ross is an accomplished intellectual property litigator with significant success litigating intellectual property cases across district courts in the U.S. and before the International Trade Commission. He has served as first chair in numerous trials – both bench and jury — as well as multiple appeals.
He holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia and conducts extensive research in industrial economics, public-private partnerships and experimental economics – his findings having appeared in various scholarly journals.
Tom has held several board positions, such as with Bausch & Lomb and the National Center for State Courts. Additionally, he served as guest lecturer at Shepard Broad School of Law in Ft. Lauderdale Florida and as member of both American Bar Association and Virginia Law Review; additionally he joined American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Additionally, Ross holds membership with 281st Assault Helicopter Company Association as well as being honored with an honorary membership of Special Forces branch.
He serves as President of the Volcker Alliance and was President Emeritus of North Carolina’s 17-campus University system from 1994 until 2001, during which time he received multiple honors such as Park Scholars’ William C. Friday Award in 2017.

Personal Life
Thomas Ross is an enthusiastic hiker and climber. He has summitted many of the world’s highest peaks – including Huayna Potosi in Bolivia – as a part of his pursuit to explore every corner of nature. Ross also pursues environmental activism as an environmentalist and human rights activist while working closely with indigenous tribal cultures; with interests including Anthropology, Ethnobotany and Shamanism.
He earned both his B.A with High Honors and J.D from the University of Virginia, graduating Order of the Coif and participating in law review. Additionally, he is admitted to practice before state and federal courts of New York.
He currently works as a Staff Scientist in the clinical fMRI branch at NIDA and has participated in most projects being completed at this clinic. He specializes in advanced data analysis techniques used for fMRI data acquisition.
